Comparative Study On Disciplines Distribution And Interdisciplinary Research Productivity Of Chinese C9Universities

Research output is an important index to reflect the scientific research level and scientific research strength of academic institutions. Using bibliometrics method to analyze the academic literatures from multiple perspectives is an important way to evaluate the research strength of academic institutions. As the domestic top institutions of colleges and universities; C9is the main force in the construction of the world first-class universities in China. Finding out the circle map, development speed, cooperative institutions of C9universities can provide an objective basis for adjusting research strategies and enhancing the comprehensive scientific strengths.The paper analyzes the research output in Scopus database (from2007to2011) of C9universities using bibliometrics method and visualization method. Firstly, analyzes the research scale and outstanding disciplines of C9universities from the aspects of research output quantity and circle maps. Secondly, analyzes the competitive power, influence power and state-of-the-art of research output of C9universities from the aspects of three types of leadership and Boston Matrix. Thirdly, analyzes the depth and breadth of collaborations of C9universities from the aspects of cooperative institutions.Based on the whole research output analysis of C9universities, the paper carries out a further analysis of the multidisciplinary research of C9universities. Meanwhile, the paper reveals the research scale, outstanding disciplines and development speed of C9universities from five aspects, including research output quantity, three types of leadership, growth rate, research disciplines and research topics.In addition, the paper conducts a separate analysis on the disciplines distribution and interdisciplinary research productivity of Nanjing University using SciVal Spotlight. The paper compares the research output of Nanjing University and other C9universities from the aspects of research output quantity, outstanding disciplines, Boston Matrix, disciplines distribution of multidisciplinary research, cooperative institutions and prolific authors.At last, the paper summarizes the research results, innovations and limitations of the whole research. Although China’s C9universities positively participated in scientific research and made certain achievements, there is still a big gap between C9universities and the world first-class universities. C9universities should adjust their research strategies to enhance their scientific research productivity.
