Education plays a pilot and fundamental role in the economic and socialdevelopment. And since the reform and opening up, education has become more andmore important. The report of18thCPC National Congress clearly pointed out that wemust make efforts to do a good job in people’s satisfactory education, and adhere tothe priority of education’s development. Third Plenary Meeting of the18th Session ofCPC National Congress also mentioned the need to deepen comprehensive reform inthe field of education. As a very important part of Marxist education theory, DengXiaoping’s educational thoughts enrich on and on. It guides the development ofsocialist education in China all along. Deng Xiaoping’s educational thoughts is anindispensible part in his theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The SelectedWorks of Deng Xiaoping touches upon education many times directly or indirectly,especially in the third volume.This article mainly researches on Deng Xiaoping’s educational thoughts fromseveral aspects, and it includes the theoretical origin and realistic foundation, the maincontents and basic characteristics, the contemporary scientific value and so on.Chapter One is the preface. It mainly expounds the background and researchsignificance of this paper, the research methods, the review at home and abroad, andthe possible innovations and inadequacies, and so on.Chapter Two is about the theoretical origin and realistic foundation of DengXiaoping’s educational thoughts. First, it explains the theoretical basis, including therelated theory of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong’s thinking on education.Second, it describes the reality basis, including the development of both internationaland domestic situation.Chapter Three is on the main contents and basic characteristics of DengXiaoping’s educational thoughts. In the first place, it expounds the main contentsof Deng Xiaoping’s educational thoughts. We must give priority to education and putit in the strategic position. We have to respect knowledge and talent, and persist inthree facing of education. In addition, we are obliged to cultivate the socialist of "FourHaves". Moreover, education must uphold the socialist direction and the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Finally, we should continue the reform of education inthe future development. Its characteristics are mainly epochal, strategic, open,practical and realistic.Chapter Four is concerning on the scientific value of Deng Xiaoping’seducational thoughts. This is the innovation point and the difficulty of this paper.Proper awareness will play a promoting role in the development of a society. Thischapter illustrates the guiding significance of Deng Xiaoping’s educationalthoughts for the contemporary society from two aspects of theory and practicerespectively, striving to make some contribution to the cause of socialism.
