Differences In The Spatial Distribution And Its Determinants Between Inter-and Intra-Provincial Floating Population

Since China’s reform and opening-up, the spatial distribution and its determinants of floating population attracts more and more attention with the continuous expansion of the size of the floating population. However, existing study about the distribution and its determinants of Chinese floating population mainly investigate the spatial pattern of floating population from the perspective of macroscopic scale, the study from the perspective of microscopic scale is so scarce. Meanwhile, few research about the spatial distribution pay attention to the significant internal differences of floating population. In view of this, this thesis analyzes the differences in the spatial distribution and its determinants between inter-and intra-provincial floating population in the perspective of counties or cities (municipals), taking Fujian Province as an example. The aims of the study are deepening the cognition about the spatial law and constraint mechanism of the movement and migration of population and proving references for the industrial distribution and regional planning of Fujian Province.Firstly, this thesis analyzes the basic characteristics of inter-and intra-provincial floating population from demographic characteristics and the social and economic characteristics comparatively, and then analyzes the differences in the spatial distribution between them from volume, rate of inflow and spatial autocorrelation three aspects. Finally, the thesis analyzes the determinants of spatial distribution of inter-and intra-provincial floating population and the differences between them. The study shows the following main findings. Firstly, inter-and intra-provincial floating populations are two groups with significant differences in basic characteristics. Secondly, the spatial distribution of inter-provincial floating population has the character of distinct imbalance and presents that "the high terrain of the southeast, northwest low". However, the spatial distribution of intra-provincial floating population is relatively equalization. Finally, the inflow of inter-provincial floating population depends on the "level of economic development" and the quantities of manufacturing jobs in destination deeply, however, the inflow of intra-provincial floating population mainly depends on the "level of social programs development" of destination, presents the character of high life quality oriented, favorable personal development conditions oriented and service, knowledge and technology occupations oriented, meanwhile, the "level of economic development" of destination is also the crucial "pull" factor. At last, the thesis elaborates the theoretical significances of the conclusions and put forwards some targeted suggestions aimed at the industrial distribution and regional planning of Fujian Province based on the conclusions.
