The rapid expansion of industrial civilization greatly improved the level of social productivity and set the stage for an unprecedented social and cultural prosperity, but it also brought serious damage to the environment. Traditional consumption patterns, compatible with industrial civilization, have made some contributions to the improvement of human living standards. However, such kind of contribution is based on the destruction of intergenerational fairness and deteriorate resources crisis and environmental problems, seriously affecting further development of the society and human survival crisis. Thus, to explore a new ecological consumption pattern is an important task for us to carry out. In this paper takes the basic position of the ecological concept of Marxist ideology to analyze the problems of traditional consumption patterns and attempts to explore an ecological consumption pattern which is beneficial for human survival and development.First, the paper discussed the problems and causes of the traditional consumption patterns and combed the Marxist concept of ecology, ecological Marxism, ecological concepts in Chinese traditional thinking and the ecological consumption ideas posed from theories of modern sustainable development. Secondly, from the reality faced by our country, it demonstrated the necessity and possibility for ecological consumption patterns to replace the traditional ones. In the critical period of building a moderately prosperous society, China needs to break through the restrictions build a beautiful China, which makes the implementation of the ecological consumption patterns inevitable; with the deepening understanding of the relationship with nature, combined with science and technology development and re-examining of the concept of happiness, it becomes possible for ecological consumption patterns to replace the traditional ones.
