Colleges and universities in our country have been long stressing the importanceof ideological and political education, which is the illustration of the delicate essencepassed down and carried out by the communist party of China. Educating and refiningpeople, it provides a platform that allows the marxism to continue operating in China.At the present time, the globalization of international economy and domesticinnovation of politics have both reached an amazing pace. With the open anddevelopment of economy, various kinds of new fashion and value come into play andkeep impacting innocent students in colleges and universities, thus posing a morecomplex ideological and political environment for them.Moral and political quality is the infrastructure of political cognitive quality,especially in regard to political quality and enthusiasm of politics， the essence ofwhich is political stands, emphasizing political manner and political meaning. Theseabove aspects constitute ideological and political quality. Comprehensivedevelopment of ideological and political quality is not only the basic requirements forcollege students’ psychological quality but also the core course of ideological andpolitical education in institutions of higher learning. Facing the new situation,colleges and universities should take the responsibility to react accordingly.This article is mainly about the long term benefits for socialism and thecontemporary status of institutions of higher learning. Make the full use of generalideological and political theories to discuss and explore ways of shortcomings incollege students’ ideological and political education. The author of this article holdsthe point that reasons for the situation lies in students’ school education, personaltalents, family education and social environment. Due to the changing of growingenvironment and the immaturity of college students’ moral and political quality aswell as the uncertainty of their value and life pursuit, they are lack of the ability totell right from wrong about politics, thus could easily be mislead by various kinds ofnew political relationships and contradictions. Schools in this case should takeeffective ideological and political education, sparing no means to try to get studentsimproved in political belief and political awareness plus a clearer sense of citizenshipand firmer political stand.In order to set up a positive and enthusiastic education to nurture students’ ideological and political quality that meet the demand of this new age, we need toinnovate and update the school curriculum, diversify the content of courses and takeadvantage of high technology, while stick to the core value system of socialism.Firstly, inculcate college students with basic theories of marxism, as it is mostimportant to have a clear mind theoretically. Secondly, impart revolutionary traditionsto students for the gaining of their sense of politics. Thirdly, build a democraticpolitical atmosphere, so as to foster their citizenship awareness. Fourthly, nurturetheir capacity of initiative and innovation, contributing as a new energy source forthem. Lastly, encourage students to explore real social life so that their social practiceability and accountability could be improved at the same time.
