According to the National New Curriculum Standard, the mission of fundamental English course is to help students arouse and improve the interests in English learning, to establish their self-confidence, to cultivate the better learning habits and form efficient learning strategies. Furthermore, the teachers should also develop the self-study ability and cooperative spirit of students. The students can master some skills like listening, speaking, reading a writing. They should be provided with a certain amount of English basic knowledge. They may be able to observe, remember, think, imagine and create. The teachers ought to help students know about the difference between western-eastern culture, to expand their vision, to cultivate their patriotism. In the end, their outlook of life is becoming healthy, which can be useful for their lifelong learning and development.English homework is an important out-put form of knowledge in English Course Learning, which is also a vital element in English teaching. The purpose of it is to consolidate the knowledge and improve the ability to apply the knowledge for students. Thus it can be seen, it is a necessary learning link which is connected with the presupposes and results. Nevertheless, throughout the development of our country’s English teaching, the homework assignment existed some problems all the time. Among these problems, the forms of homework is a representative one. Some forms of traditional homework can’t act on the mission of fundamental English teaching well, it caused the dilemma of "high input, low return". Besides, the parochial forms of homework have already affected the well-behaved development of students’thoughts and the formation of their creativity. In other words, the parochial form of homework isn’t satisfied with the students’ developing needs. As a result, it led plenty of contradictions. For instance, the homework of students can’t form a good influence on students’ English learning, the students finish the homework carelessly, even some of them refuse to finish the homework. These problems have troubled many teachers so far, some of them tried to conduce "homework according to different levels". The result is dual, someone got better results which presented in exam marks of students, but they complain that kind of homework is difficult to conduct because it will add the teachers’ burden. In some sense, we are luck of substantive change with systematic self-examination. On the other hand, some teachers tried to change in a way of better consideration. However, their attempts are limited by the complex situation of students, which made the process of conduction seem more difficult.The teachers have been restricted by many reasons and situations for many years, they can’t carry out the efficient reformation of homework. For example, if they reform the homework in the sight of multi-form, they will face more serious workload. On the contrary, if we take the action in a girls’ school, the situation may be brighter for the reason that girls are quieter and conscientious relatively. Thus the teachers don’t have to worry more about the questions like imbalance in development between girls and boys. As long as the orders provided by teachers are clear and depending on the rules. The girls are likely to attend in the process of research.The thesis is based on the problems which are caused by the single-form homework in current English teaching and abided by New Curriculum Standard, I carry out the action research called multi-form assignment in a girls’school which has pure receiver relatively is to verify the reasonability and scientificity of the topic. Here I renamed homework as assignment for the reason that I want to expand the function of traditional homework. Thus I can provide approaches for enhancing the English teaching quality in girls’school.The thesis started from the theory of "teach as genders" and expanded the form of traditional homework. Furthermore, it intended to enrich the roles of traditional homework as multi-form assignment, and bend itself to solve the four following questions:1. Can I carry out multi-form assignment in a girls’school?2. What forms of assignment can be taken practice in a girls’ school?3. Is it efficient to carry on the research like this?4. Is the research able to provide useful suggestions for common English teaching?The thesis took the main methods like document analysis, narrative research and action research.
