Grammar teaching has always been a significant part of China’s foreign language teaching. In senior high school, the role of grammar teaching is especially important. How to teach grammar also has been the object of researchers. And there always have been the problem that the grammar teaching is not so efficiency in our high school’s English teaching. Then what kind of teaching concept and strategies should be selected is especially important for the improvement of teaching effect. As a new cognitive theory, constructivism holds that teaching should be student-centered; students are the subject of study, teachers are just the assistant. It emphasizes the importance of constructing the learning situation and argues that learners can get knowledge only in the real social and cultural context with necessary resources. At the same time it holds that "collaborative learning" also plays an important role for the construction of knowledge. These theories have a huge impact on the traditional grammar teaching strategies. And this article is mainly to conduct an empirical research to discuss whether teaching strategies based on constructivism is valid while teaching grammar and if teaching strategies based on constructivism are more effective when compared with the traditional grammar teaching strategies.This essay starts with the development of grammar teaching and elaborates and analyzes the traditional grammar teaching methods and strategies; Then it discusses view of learning and teaching from the perspective of Constructivism; And from the aspect of the needs of practice the author selects a certain number of teaching strategies which are based on Constructivism and applies them in the experiment which lasts for a term in Luoshan Senior High School, Xinyang, Henan Province. According to the experiment results analyzed by the SPSS, the author gets the conclusion that compared with the traditional grammar teaching, though there are some disadvantages, grammar teaching strategies based on constructivism are more effective. The paper contains six parts. Chapter One is the brief introduction of the whole paper. Chapter Two mainly deal with the literature review on grammar teaching. In this part, we will talk about the definition of grammar teaching and the development of grammar teaching as well as some studies on grammar teaching in the view of constructivism. Chapter three introduces the theoretical basis of this thesis. It mainly concerns about the origins of constructivism, the learning theories of constructivism and the teacher’s role in the constructivist learning theory. Chapter four, the author will apply the theories into teaching process. Chapter five, the author analyzes the data collected and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the method. Chapter six is the conclusion of the study. In this part, findings are stated clearly. Besides, some suggestions should be made and the limitations of this paper should be listed.
