In senior middle school, English grammar teaching plays an important role in English teaching and it's one of the most difficult tasks. As a teacher in a common senior school, the author often hears students complain about the difficulty and boredom of learning English grammar. At present, monotonous teaching methods and mechanical ways of practicing contribute to students'lack of interest in grammar and their low comprehensive language competence. Therefore, adopting a more effective grammar teaching method to foster students'ability of using the English language comprehensively has become important in English teaching. This thesis mainly discusses how to take advantage of the multimedia technology to improve senior school English grammar teaching. The three research questions addressed are:Can multimedia help senior high school students learn grammar? Can the new method enhance grammar teaching and supplement the disadvantages of the traditional teaching way? If so, how? Are the learners involved satisfied with this style of teaching and learning? Although there have been plenty of researches done in this area before, findings were not so consistent and researches about subject groups were limited in a way. These are the reasons why I chose this title to study. This paper consists of six chapters. Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the research. With the development of the contemporary information technology and teaching theories, the utilization of multimedia technology has become a trend in reforming English teaching. Chapter Two summarizes the related research at home and abroad, points out the problems in the current English grammar teaching, and illustrates the good effects of using multimedia technology to reform grammar teaching. Chapter Three introduces the theoretical basis of the research. The research is based on constructivism and some language learning theories. Chapter Four is about research methodology and the process of the research. In the experiment, the subjects are eighty-two students from two classes in Grade One in an ordinary senior school in the countryside. During the study, the author uses questionnaires and experimentation. Via the experimental lectures, the author creates real situations that are beneficial to practical language teaching, simplifies the difficult grammar points and helps the students understand grammar rules more thoroughly. The students' passion for learning English grammar has been inspired by learning in an interesting and meaningful context. Chapter Five mainly analyzes and discusses findings of the experiment. The results of the experiment show that the use of multimedia technology is helpful to improve English grammar teaching in senior middle school. At last in Chapter Six, the author concludes the limitation of the experiment and brings forward some questions that need to be studied in the future. The author hopes further researches on grammar teaching will be carried out by researchers and teachers.
