Grammar is the basis for using a language. English grammar teaching is an important part of English teaching in Middle Schools and it is also one of the most difficult aspects in English teaching. At present, middle school students commonly find it hard to master English grammar. The monotonous teaching methods and mechanical ways of practicing, plus lack of interest on the part of students, often result in low comprehensive language proficiency, even though they have learned many grammar rules. Therefore, how to adopt a more effective grammar teaching method, with the emphasis placed on fostering students'ability to use the English language comprehensively, has become an important issue in English teaching.This thesis mainly examines the issue of how to make full use of the multimedia technology to solve the problems in grammar teaching, so as to harmonize the impartation of knowledge and the build-up of ability. This paper includes six chapters.Altogether, the thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the background and significance of the research. With the development of the contemporary information technology and teaching theories, the utilization of information technology, especially the multimedia technology with computer at its core, has become a trend in reforming English teaching.Chapter 2 summarizes the current situation of related research at home and abroad, discusses the requirements in the new curriculum standards middle school English grammar teaching, points out the problems in the current English grammar teaching, and illustrates the good effects in using multimedia technology to reform grammar teaching.Chapter 3 deals with the research design. Based on constructivism and language learning theories, the author carries out an 18-week study of two ordinary classes, using questionnaires and experimentation. In the experiment, full use of the multimedia technology is made, with graphics, words and sound, to maneuver students'senses in the learning process, give prominence to the practicality of the language and put students in the center of the learning process. Via the experimental lectures, it shows the optimization of teaching through multimedia technology in the following aspects. A) To create real situations that is conducive to practical language teaching; B) To provide students with meaningful context, so that they can understand grammar rules more thoroughly; C) To simplify the abstract so as to solve the difficult points in grammar teaching; D) To summarize grammar rules effectively so that students can master them in a systematic and comprehensive way; E) To inspire students'passion for learning English grammar by creating an interesting learning environment.Chapter 4 analyzes and discusses the results of the experiment. Findings in the experiment show that the test results with the use of multimedia technology are better than those without multimedia technology, thus confirming that the use of multimedia technology dose optimize teaching efficiency and quality.Chapter 5 discusses the limitation of the experiment and puts forward the issues needed to be studied, in the hope of benefiting English grammar teaching. Chapter 6 is the conclusion.
