English grammar teaching has been a controversial topic in English teaching for a long time. In fact, English grammar teaching is of great importance and necessity in China. There are two major mistakes in the English grammar teaching nowadays. One is that the objective of speech communication is much too emphasized while the importance of the grammar teaching and the accuracy of the language are neglected. The other is that teachers employ the traditional grammar teaching methods which are less efficient and lack of attraction for students, survey revealing the poor effect of grammar teaching and the universal dissatisfaction from students. Therefore our cognition of English grammar teaching should be changed, grammar teaching methods altered and a new English grammar teaching model constructed, aiming at serving the students' communicative ability. Documentation and questionnaire survey are the main research methods in this thesis. The results of the questionnaire are quantitatively analyzed, aiming at finding out the current problems in English grammar teaching and constructing an effective grammar teaching model that meet the students.This thesis is divided into four parts. Part One is an introduction, where the importance and necessity of English grammar teaching and the current situation in it are particularly dealt with as well as introducing the research methods. Part Two is documentation. It begins with the major schools and the views on learning of constructivism, the theories of activity for learning and the zone of proximal development and then introduces the interactive teaching methodology and grammar teaching in brief. Part Three includes research design, the analysis and discussion about the results of the students'survey. In the last part, In terms of the problems revealed in the survey and the theory of constructivism, the thesis proposes six grammar teaching principles, and then construct grammar teaching model under the guidance of constructivism theory and interactive teaching methodology, expounding the activities in the five procedures.
