Population growth and urban sprawl are two main symbols of urbanization. AlthoughChina is now an aging society, but it is still a developing country, the contradiction betweenthe formers increases: Development requires constantly urbanization expansion; an agingsociety means that future growth of population will be maintained at a low level. It becomesthe focus of academic attention that how to coordinate the population and urban sprawl, andeven much concerned ever since the " scientific outlook on development " has beenproposed. Now this is not only a crucial year for the completion of a comprehensive well-off society, but also the pilot year of pushing on hardly the new-type urbanization, the studyof systems coordination between population growth and urban spatial expansion thereforehas important theoretical and practical significance for the development of relevant policies. This paper reviews the research progress for the man-land relationship, Systematica llydescribes the theoretical basis of population growth and the urban spatial expansion, especially introduces the theory of set pair analysis to describe the opposites and unitybetween the two systems. By system coordination evaluation based on set pair analysis, thepaper analyzes the space-time differences in population growth and expansion ofcoordinated from10cities along the high-speed railway lin of Harbin-Dalian and Jilin-Hunchun in ChangChun-Jilin-Tumen pilot Zone including Changchun, Jiutai, Jilin, Jiaohe,Dunhua, Yanji, Longjing, and Helong, Tumen and Hunchun. After determining the systemevaluation index of coordination, extracts and classifies the indexes of population growthand the expansion, constructs the relevant system based on the existing literature data, thenanalyzes the space-time differences in population growth and expansion of coordinated inChangChun-Jilin-Tumen pilot Zone cities referring to set pair analysis. At last the factorsthat restrict the coordination are analyzed. The results show that:(1) In addition to Helong and Longjing·s being in disorders recession, Changchun, Jilin, Yanji and Hunchun are in general coordination state, Jiutai,Jiaohe, Dunhua and Tumen are in basic coordination state. cities sprawl in Low efficiency, relevant cities handle its land roughly and do not pay attention to the inner intensive landuse, favours the "tan-da-bing" way of urban sprawl expansion, While inner urban land usestructur also failed to meet the require that concentrates population. And especiallyLongjing and Helong are the typical decreasing population growth rate, which can notsupport the urban spatial expansion with enough man power.(2) Changchun, Jilin, Yanjiand Tumen s system coordination have emerged on the rise from year to year, but the futureforecast coordination of Changchun, Yanji and Hunchun will decline. Coordination of allcities are very fragile, and their stability must be improved.
