Regional economic development is affected by many factors and populationmigration is one of them. Population migration changes the supply and demand of thelabor market and it can also have an impact on the regional level of demand. Thispaper explores the impact that population migration has on regional economicdevelopment of Heilongjiang Province and the role population migration plays in theeconomic growth and its unbalanced situation in Heilongjiang.Firstly, the author usespopulation weighted coefficient of variation to analyze the unbalanced developmentlevel between prefecture-level cities in Heilongjiang province from2000to2010.Comparing it with net migration of population, the paper preliminarily analyzesthe influence that population migration has on the level of unbalanced regionaldevelopment in Heilongjiang. Secondly, using spatial econometric analysis method, this paper respectively discusses the spatial distribution characteristics ofHeilongjiang regional economic from2000to2010in both horizontal and verticalways. Thirdly, measurement methods are used to have a quantitative analysis of theinfluence that population migration in Heilongjiang province has on regionaleconomic development and its imbalance.Through the study, it is concluded that though there is a decreasing trend in theunbalanced degree of GDP level in prefecture-level cities in Heilongjiang year byyear, the unbalanced level is still obvious in general. In addition, the horizontal spacedistribution of GDP is also unbalanced in prefecture-level cities in Heilongjiang. TheGDP level in the south is higher than the north. Harbin plays a leading role in theeconomic development of its Neighboring cities.
