The Highlighted Words For Children Aged4-5in Electronic Picture Book Characters Watched On The Effects Of Eye Movement Research

Highlighted words is a significant multimedia elements of electronic picture books.It is a practical issue that if highlighted words can play a certain role in promoting children’s awareness of words.This study chose Tobii T120eye-movement apparatus as the research tool, and60middle class children of a kindergarten in Tianjin as subjects.The experimental group and control group each has30students. To reveal the influence of highlighted words on4-5years old children’s looking at on the text when reading electronic picture book, researcher adopted the methods of singal factor between subjects and inspected4-5years old children’s eye movement characteristics of reading electronic picture books which contains highlighted words.The results showed that:(1) Highlighted words can attract4-5years old children to focus on words longer and more frequent.(2)In the process of the whole book reading, highlighting words can attract children’s attention longer and more frequent at first. But with the increase of the page, children’s attention dropped in time and frequency, and keep at a stable level. On the whole, experimental group’s attention degree and frequency is higher than that of control group.(3) Highlighted words have no effect on children’s attention to the time and frequency of the picture, it means that highlighted words don’t preempt the attention resources when children are reading pictures.(4) Highlighted words have no effect on children’s understanding of the whole picture book.Based on the above conclusions, the author puts forward some education suggestions:(1) Children at home can timely read electronic picture books.(2) Electronic picture book publishers can add highlighted words to electronic picture books, and try to promote its popularity.
