Spatial Order And Production Of Space

Huacun is an aged village which located in the suburb of Kunming and has a kind of unique spatial structure.Under the process of urbanization, This village has been involved in the expansion of city, thus bring about a drastic spatial morphology transition,witch contain both traditional and modern under the current time-spatial. This spatial morphology attracted the research interest of author,and inspired the consideration as follows:What is Huacun’s village space pattern and structure during the traditional social formation?Is there specificity and inner logic about this kind of sociol space constitution? Under the context of Modernization and Urbanization, which changes concerning the social space formation mechanism has appearanced in Huacun,and how is this change process work? Behind this social space transition of village, what kind of transition concerning the social process and village order can be reflected? Meanwhile,these issues will be researched and discussed in this paper.This paper considers that the spatial process is corresponding to the social process. Thus the author investigate Huacun’s social space and its form transformation from the perspective of production of space,and the author hold that this is an unique research approach whitch worth to explore on the transition studies about rural society.Based on literature collecting and field research,the author pieced the full image of Huacun’s traditional spatial morpholog, discussed its connection with village daily life and village order afterwards. Meanwhile, emphatically analyzes the process of Huacun’s production of space,and discussed the occurrence logic of production of space from the perspective of spatial structure which representations of space, spatial practice and representational spaces as its three aspects.This paper considers the conclusions as follows,the two types of occurrence logic of social space concerning Huacun is distinguishing.The source of traditional village spatial morpholog is more a initiative force which originated from the village,such as belief, morality, culture and regulation. Meanwhile,the spatial structure is coordinated with the village community.,even can be claim that spatial morpholog symbolized the order of village.This kind of village spece is living space, significance space,order space, its the source of meaning and rule about villagers’ daily life and social action. The author call the corresponding relationship between space and village community as spatial order,which mean the space produce the orders,as well as the occurrence logic of Huacun’s traditional spatial structure. By contrast, the occurrence logic of production of space occurring in Huacun is manifested as social order produce the space.Under the impetus of brute force such as authority, capital and ideology which represent the social order, representations of space which space planners, city experts and technocratic bureaucracy as its symbolization, and this brute force dominate Huacun’s spatial morphology transition. The production of space produced an unique material patial structure of Huacun,leads to the drastic changes of village daily life, community structure,and caused a crisis of community integration as well. Therefore,the village is not a living space or spiritual home for peasants,but a survival space. Huacun is suffering the dis-localization, confronting with the termination of village,and turning into a part of urban area gradually.
