Quadratic function has played an important role in the process of junior high school mathematics teaching,and using the knowledge of quadratic function to solve the practical problems is one of indispensable points in High School Entrance Examination. In order to understand the students’ current situation of using the knowledge of quadratic function to solve the practical in grade nine. Four parts are mainly discussed as follows:(1)The current situation of students’ application level.(2)The difficulties during students’ application.(3)The reasons for difficulties.(4)Countermeasures for problems solving.Many teachers and students in grade nine between NO.8 and NO.5 middle schools in Wuwei city are investigated. Research methods are used to collect research materials and analyze the data, including questionnaire investigation, test method,interview method and so on. Based on the survey,the difficulties of students’ application are summarized during the process of using the knowledge of quadratic function to solve practical problems:(1)Students’ ability of mathematics reading comprehension is weak.(2)Students’ ability of formulating the mathematics model is poor.(3)Students’ aren’t good at mastering the basic knowledge of quadratic function.(4)The thought and method of Connecting Number with Shape is lake.(5)There is the obvious barrier in emotional attitude towards mathematics learning.(6)The level of reflection is low.The problem are discussed from views between teachers and students according to the difficulties analysis:(1)Teachers are lake of awareness of combining textbook knowledge with practice.(2)Teachers are impatient in mathematics teaching.(3)Both teaching method and teaching mode are inefficient.(4)Students have narrow knowledge to use.(5)Students are lack of life experience to practice.(6)Students are poor in flexibly using what they have learn.Finally, some suggestions are proposed accordingly:(1)To strengthen the connections between teaching collect and life experience.(2)To teach students how to read mathematics text efficiently.(3)To make mathematics teaching much more interesting.(4)To deepen the understanding in learning.(5)To broaden their knowledge in learning.(6)To improve their interest and confidence in mathematics learning.
