Quadratic function is one of the key and difficult knowledge points in junior middle school mathematics,which will strongly influence the mathematical study in senior high school.However,the learning effect for this knowledge point is not satisfactory and the scoring average is relatively low.This indicates that the junior high school students have some difficulties in the process of learning quadratic function.Therefore,in order to make them make a breakthrough while learning the knowledge point and get good grades,we are supposed to unveil the actual reason for this unsatisfactory phenomenon.In this paper,we conduct a comparative study on the learning situation concerning the quadratic function between a regular class and a control class in Xining and deeply analyze students’ learning barriers and the causes of them.The paper is based on experimenting on one regular class and one control class of Grade 9 in NO.2 middle school in Xi Ning.Besides,the theoretical foundation and concrete research methods as well as the research objectives are also clearly shown in the paper.Meanwhile,a questionnaire and a test survey are carried out to study the current situation of students’ learning quadratic function in the two classes,the result of which is conductive to making an in-depth analysis of how well the students have grasped the quadratic function concept,its graph and its properties and how competent they are in applying quadratic function comprehensively.Additionally,this questionnaire helps to have an initial understanding of what kind of difficulties and obstacles the students may have in the process of learning,which will pave a path and provide effective statistics for the further research.The data analyses reveal that students have met with learning obstacles int thefollowing aspects,such as symbolism of the concept,solving an analysis formula,how to show the graph with an expression,parallel move of the graph and the practical and comprehensive application of quadratic function.This paper explores the reasons for all the learning difficulties in terms of the knowledge point itself,the learning subject and other factors.First of all,students are supposed to have a good command of the basic concepts related to Quadratic function.Furthermore,students are expected to strengthen the train of thought and techniques in solving the problem,thus finding out the best approach to working out the problem.Lastly,promote the communication between teachers and students and lessen cognitive disparities,thus improving the teaching efficiency and motivating students’ learning enthusiasm.The research is based on the practical situation of the regular class and control class,the main research methodology of which are questionnaire and tests.Depending on the Cognitive Development Theory and Constructivism Theory,this paper deeply explores the learning obstacles that junior middle school students are confronted with while learning Quadratic function and the reasons behind.After the research,some effective countermeasures are provided so that they can be of some help to the mathematical teaching about Quadratic function in Xi Ning and offer some references and guidance on teaching in other areas.
