Yi people is a large population and branches of nation.Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture is one of the major district Yi nationality settlements in southwest of Yunnan province.There are many Yi branches numerous lived the nine county of Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture.Dayao is one of county which lived the local indigenous minorities of Yi people it belong to the slang branches.The unique geographical location And rich and colorful Yi culture of Santai Created the most characteristic--Costume Competition Festival.Costume Competition Festival is the most important festival in Santai district, it contains all culture symbols of the Yi people’s slang branch.All culture are presented in this festival,such as Yi people’s dress, religion, dance, marriage customs,diet, residences and so on, The Costume Competition Festival is not only the external performance of yi culture content and the carrier,but also manifest the profound cultural connotation and the spiritual kernel of Yi people.Today, this ancient festival is still have strong culture creativity,its cultural transmission force and influence increases year by year.What is evoked memories of the Costume Competition Festival and which forces in the construction of the festival now? What kind of function and meaning of this festival? How to adapt and survive of this festival under the background of social transition?There are five chapter in this thesis.This thesis through analyzing the whole culture of Costume Competition Festival,studying this the change of this festival in historical time and space,revealing the function and significance of Costume Competition Festival and to explore what kind of power in promoting the change process.
