The rapid development of contemporary competitive sports is strongly associated with social advancement. The modern society gives full play to the political, economic and cultural functions of competitive sports. Therefore, scales of sports events, participation in the game and competitive levels all make unprecedented development. However, the fast athletics sports cause the injuries of elite athletes with increasing intensity. As subjects of competitive sports, athletes are related to the sports future. Their injuries reflect the drawbacks of competitive sports, thus it is especially significant to find out the causes of their injuries. Starting from changes in the developing trend of competitive sports, this paper tries to sort out social factors behind athletes’ injuries. For instance, commercialization leads to changes in competitive sports game system; professionalization intensifies sports competition; socialization makes competitive sports over-entertaining. Furthermore, these causes do not stand alone, but interrelate and interact with each other, resulting in the rising rate of athletes’ injuries.This paper mainly adopts the research methods of literature review, case analysis and logical analysis to analyze data, which are collected from online news reports about athletes’ injuries of the recent decade from 2005 to 2014. "The athlete injuries", "athletes retire because of injury." "retired athletes" for the major sports events at home and abroad keyword network news 4000, which eliminate duplicate reports, no relevant reports, selected athletes injured 500 network-related news stories as a case material, and select a representative case analysis and research, due to the aspect of the research involves more abstract, using case studies to gather to nearly a decade of network news content on athlete injuries were analyzed, summarized reports of injury causation, to delve into the causes, find the reason and cause injuries athlete development of modern society are closely linked. The results of this paper are as follows:(1) intensive schedule, rule changes, training overload and wrong sport athlete concept is an important cause of injury is high. Modern sports competition sports variety, diversity in the form of a long-season time, and the points system competition system is the direct cause of their injury-prone athletes.(2) competitive sports from the initial symbolic ceremony to showcase the national interest in order to become commercially valuable performers. The "tools" of athletes has violated the life in the "people-oriented" autonomy; Athletes "technical" is a breach of the humanitarian spirit of "people-oriented"; Athletes’ “physical and psychological differentiation" contrary to the "People-oriented" principles of unity of body and mind.
