An Analysis Of The Adverse Effect Of New Liberalism On Contemporary College Student’s Cultural Values And Available Countermeasures

With the increasingly widened opening up to the outside world and the popularization of web-based transmission of information, western countries led by the US are aggressively selling their new liberalism to China. This poses a great threat to the Chinese cultural and ideological security and presents a serious challenge to Chinese Marxist mainstream ideology. Under this circumstance, we should keep alert to new liberalism and gain an insight into its theory so as to resolutely boycott its ideologicalization. In august, 2013, President Xi Jinping pointed out that ideological work is the foremost important work for the Chinese Communist Party. Then in January,2015, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued the “Instructions about Further Strengthening and Improving Publicity and Ideology Work in Universities under the New situation” pointed out again that it’s a significant and urgent strategic task to strengthen and improve the ideological work in universities.So it’s clear that ideological work in universities is our forward position.College students are the constructors and successors of our country’s socialist cause. Yet they’re also immature in their values and susceptible to changes. Facing new liberalism, they may feel perplexed and fall victims to its temptation and are led astray.Aiming to solve this problem, this paper plans to employ such methods as questionnaire,literature review and comprehensive analysis to carry out an investigation into the influence of new liberalism on the values of contemporary college students and then put forward educational countermeasures accordingly.This paper first discusses the relevant theory of new liberalism, introduces and analyzes its basic concepts, principles of values, positive and negative effects. Next, by handing out questionnaires, this paper managed to learn the current situation of newliberalism’s influence on contemporary college students of three universities in Dalian,who come from different parts of China. The information obtained from these questionnaires includes: new liberalism is undermining the Marxism belief of some contemporary college students, who put their own interest before group interest, become utilitarian in their values, seek absolute individual freedom and fail to obey discipline.Then, this paper analyzes the subjective and objective causes of the negative influence of new liberalism on Chinese college students. Finally, this paper puts forward countermeasures for eliminating the negative influence of new liberalism on our college students in the hope of strengthening the students’ Marxism belief and raising their consciousness in fulfilling socialist core values in the following four aspects:ideological and political educators helping students to have a correct understanding of new liberalism’s negative influence, strengthening the leading position of socialist core values through major media, perfecting educational mechanism, eliminating the negative influence of new liberalism on campus.
