The reform of textbook is particularly outstanding in the reform of elementary education curriculum,based on the principle of more textbooks on one syllabus, for the four textbooks first recognized by national ministry of education their content arrangements and structures present the diversification and individuation. As for the new textbooks of the four editions, each of them makes the spiral arrangement for four sections, so that the content from four areas runs through \primary math textbook on the whole. And the content about “Number and Algebra” occupies the large part in traditional primary math textbook.Compared with “Number and Algebra”, the content about “Space and Graph” and “Statistics and Ratio”occupies the small part, or is arranged in one volume. The field of primary math education adopts the spiral arrangement for new textbooks, but the dispute about segment arrangement and spiral arrangement for textbook content is still great, and the front-line teachers also have the different opinions. Based on this,this research will further research these problems, so as to bring new enlightenment to the reasonable textbook arrangement, and provide the basis and proof for further analysis of textbook.By using the research methods such as literature research, content analysis, interview and experimentation, this paper analyzes the texts respectively, conducts the interviews with teachers, and tests the students. Through quantitative comparison, this paper analyzes the course in terms of breadth, depth and difficulty, and interviews the front-line teachers through questionnaire, and learns about the influence of front-line teachers on textbook arrangement and some problems, and also analyzes the student score under the different teaching models.This research concludes the final conclusion:Firstly, selecting arrangement according to teaching content and targetBoth spiral arrangement and segment arrangement depend on the content of different sections and the different course targets. If not betraying the law of children’s cognitive development and disturbing the whole knowledge structure, it should search the balance of the two arrangements. It can be seen from the arrangement structure of the eighth volume for primary math, the section added into direction and position between the significance of decimal and the addition and subtraction of decimal results in the incomplete knowledge structure. Then the unprovoked increase of the breadth in course makes students difficult in learning. The author believes that the knowledge about decimal should be taught as a whole, which meansthe significance of decimal and the addition and subtraction of decimal should be put together, and the part about the direction and position should be moved back, so as to keep the integrity of knowledge section.Secondly, to search the balance of breadth and depth for the course as for course structure arrangement According to the experimental results, it is found that there are some problems about the current textbook made by spiral arrangement. Therefore, the textbook design should not adopt the single arrangements, or blindly follow the principle of spiral arrangement. The textbook design should select spiral arrangement or segment arrangement according to characteristics in the content. We should adopt the “narrow and deep”structure to arrange the textbook according to the knowledge contents having closed relationship, which is segment arrangement. And we should adopt the “broad and simple” structure to arrange the textbook according to the large knowledge contents having loose relationship, which is spiral arrangement. As measured by efficient teaching for teachers and students, this paper proposes to search the balance between the two arrangements, so as to optimize the structure of textbook.There are also lots of problems in the research, such as less investigation objects, limited investigation area and short time span for testing, which need to be improved.
