High school biology is a scientific discipline, and the development of inquiry abilities is a strong momentum in promoting the biology subject. However, in the traditional teaching, teachers usually adopt the cramming teaching method featured by rigidly uniform.Students are in a passive state of learning and their abilities in inquiry, analysis and independent thinking are repressed. Different from the traditional one, the inquiry teaching method uses the method of exploring the unknown to construct knowledge, which can better train students’ ability to think independently and continuously improve the overall quality of high school students. Meanwhile, the inquiry teaching focuses on people-oriented, scientific inquiry and practical innovation, and it plays a key role in the high school biology teaching. Therefore, the author, based on efforts to study the domestic and foreign educational psychology, makes studies on "how to apply the inquiry teaching to high school biology curriculum", then makes a detailed analysis starting from the inquiry teaching design and combining with part of the sections in the compulsory courses of high school biology as examples,and finally puts forward relevant suggestions on the strategies required to be penetrated into the inquiry teaching practice and the problems that should be paid attention to. This study is carried out with an aim of helping more high schools to quickly adopt the inquiry teaching system in the teaching process and, at the same time, providing some valuable reference for the education circle. This paper consists of five parts:The first part, elaborate the background and significance of inquiry teachingThe second part, analyze the significance of implementing the inquiry teaching in high school biology, as well as the characteristics and theoretic foundation of this teaching model based on the relevant data collected.The third part, proceed inquiry teaching design on the compulsory textbooks of high school biology and analyze the cases. Advocate the inquiry teaching design to encourage the students to think independently and cultivate students’ comprehensive ability including the team cooperation analysis.The fourth part, find out the problems and put forward the corresponding suggestions through tracking the inquiry teaching process of some schools and analyzing the implementation effects.The fifth part, explore the problems existing in the inquiry teaching practice of high school and look forward to the future.To apply the inquiry teaching to the high school biology curriculum can effectively develop the students independent thinking ability, keen observation ability as well as communication and cooperation consciousness. In addition, the inquiry teaching can also improve the students’ interest in learning, improve their comprehensive quality and push forward the policy of quality education implemented by the country. Therefore, it is advisable that each high school and all the high school teachers seriously implement the inquiry teaching which is a significant concept in the practice, master the diversified inquiry teaching strategies and constantly improve the application effect.
