With enrollment expansion of colleges and universities and education reform carried out step by step, the elite-oriented teaching method is no longer applicable.Under the new curriculum teaching concept, the requirements on students’ skills,emotional, attitude and values are increased. The PBL(Problem-based Learning)teaching and learning template, in order to promote students to master knowledge foundation flexibly and develop high-level thinking skills, problem solving ability and autonomous learning ability, was brought in timely in this period.The purpose of this study is to explore how to teach biology with PBL teaching and learning template in high school, and how to design PBL biology course. This paper has generalized numbers of scholars’ research results on PBL with literature analysis method, and analyzed the three basic elements of PBL teaching mode. IMSA’s(Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, an American high school,one of the most successful school in carrying out PBL teaching and learning template in high school in the world) and Qunli Sheng’s PBL teaching mode are chosen as representation. Based on the comparison and analysis of to them, the PBL teaching mode is summarized as four basic stages: preparing PBL course, introducing the problem, coaching inquiry learning, and reflecting learning outcomes. Combining the four basic stages with Professor xu’s new curriculum teaching design concept, this paper concluded a PBL instructional design model which could be used in middle school biology course.In the main body part, this paper uses two teaching plans obtained from the IMSA’s and GCSC’s network resources as case to interpret the new PBL teaching model. Then,the article gives a instructional design based on the model of PBL instructional design.At the last, the feasibility of the instructional design and the model are proved by the questionnaire data.At the end of this paper, there is a brief summary of the outcomes and weaknesses.The PBL teaching mode is bound to shine in our country.
