In the long study conducted for language learning, linguists have found that any form of language learning can’t be separated with reading. Without reading, people may lose the access to get either knowledge or information. To a certain extent, students’ reading skills determine the level of students’ language learning. Reading and spelling ability are very important in English learning.In English learning, reading and spelling are two very important aspects. It has been suggested that phonics study is very useful, especially in reading aspect in English. The author observes that most of the students in primary school are not very interested in reading.In the research, we used the double consonant and the compound words as examples.The study is presented to study whether phonics study is useful for Chinese younger learners’ spelling and reading. But the compound word is mainly focused. Students of grade 3rd in the primary school have been divided into two groups. One class serves as control group, the other class called the target group. The control group is taught by traditional teaching method, on the other hand, we used phonics in teaching approach.To evaluate the English level in the two classes, we took a previous test. There is no difference between the two groups. After a term, all the students of the two groups took a post-test, and the children learned the phonics knowledge in target group improve their reading and spelling ability significantly. According to teacher recorded in the reflection notes and the finds in the class,we gathered the data. The result shows that using phonics study can improve young learners’ reading and spelling ability.That is very useful in young learners’ further study in English. A revolution may ask for in English education for young learners.
