Healthy and orderly development for rural education needs a high-quality, high-level and high-ability principal team. The stress and the role conflict of principals in junior middle schools at present make a serious influence on their mental and physical development, which make a direct impact on the development of rural education. What the status of role conflict for rural junior middle school principal is. This paper deals with the problems about which factors leads to the principal’s role conflict and how to relieve the conflict of principal’s role.Through the collection of relevant literature, the researcher found that although previous research has discussed the issues of the principal’s role from the theoretical level, or has illustrated the analysis with quantifying research method, but narrative research method is seldom used on this research. The researcher tried to use this method as a new perspective for analyzing this problem of junior middle schools principal in rural areas to compensate for this vacancy.The research adopted the narrative research, taking a principal who is worked for four years at the C rural middle school of H county in Gansu province, as an object of this studying. Role conflict is appeared in the eyes of principal Z, others, and researcher and is narrated in the form of original stories. The researcher puts an interpretation on the formation of process of the role conflict of principal and finds ways to dissolve the problem.The role conflict of principal performances in the following areas: the critical shortage educational expenditure; the arduous tasks; the exaggerated responsibility; the inequality between right and obligation; dilemma; too much trivia; discord relationship;, failure to communicate with others; traffic inconvenience; bad discipline and so on. Then, the reasons for the rural junior middle school principal are studied and analyzed on the four aspects: different expectations of principal’s role; the lack of role-play ability; unreasonable evaluation of principal role; headmaster’s inequality between right and the obligation. At last, the researcher tried to find the ways to dissolve the role conflict of principal,such as improving the ability of role-play; placing the reasonable expectations on principals; establishing the reasonable appraisal system; providing social support system for principal; increasing training to improve the principal’s quality; increasing investment and giving preferential policies to rural education.
