Social space research is one of the classic problems of sociology and geography. Especially in China’s rapid urbanization and socio-economic transition, urban space showing internal and external expansion update, be more localized and fragmented social space. In previous studies, urban geography scholars focus more on the use of census data, the quantitative factor analysis of urban social area analysis, the social structure of the city on a macro scale, and those localized and fragmented social space is at street level. The census data overshadowed, leading to the eventual outcome is difficult to give a reasonable explanation. The sociologist are good at social survey, the use of questionnaires and interviews, but not good at spatial analysis. In addition to three decades of reform and opening up, the majority of the space research community focused on Beijing,Shanghai, Guangzhou and other major cities, the lack of research on small and medium sized cities.Taking Ningbo KongPu-street, for example, through questionnaires and oral history collection, on the basis of qualitative analysis, the study of the urban community. After four community studies of different types of the same street, according to residents, shopping, leisure three aspects. Focus on analysis of residential space, shopping space, recreational space space such as change influence on residents, and residents’ social class changes and family changes affect this social space. Again mainly based on the analysis of social space based on the oral history of interstitial of KongPu residents by qualitative analysis, summed up the social space KongPu streets evolution commonality and individuality, structural analysis of social space changes. The study found that on a macroscopic scale, the changes in the supply of social and institutional change; in the meso-scale, urban management and urban planning changes, resulting in a change in the social space of urban residents had various effects. On the residential housing residents to sources from the purchase of real estate by the unit allocation change, and improve residents’ housing area is expanding and supporting facilities, moved to become more liberal; the shopping, the emergence of new shopping space rich source of the residents shopping; at leisure on the renewal and transformation of urban space infrastructure, enriching the leisure facilities residents. At the micro level, residents of social class differentiation and family changes, the formation of different social strata need to live, shopping and leisure space, to guide the production of urban social space; social space resulting differentiation and generate new social space.
