School physical education is an indispensable part of school education system, while basketball course is an effective way to achieve the goals of high school sports teaching, is an important topic in the field of high school sports teaching. In view of this, this paper using Xiangtan municipal high school basketball course status quo as a starting point, summarizes the current situation of high school basketball optional course and faced key issues, discussed measures and ways of teaching content optimization, rying to find a suitable basketball teaching mode to promote the further development of our high school sports teaching.Research mainly using methods of adopts literature, questionnaire, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, by 8 Xiangtan municipal high school basketball teaching status analysis, teaching content optimization problems were discussed, get the following conclusions:1, Teachers of Xiangtan municipal high school basketball optional course in age structure and title structure is more reasonable, but there are too few female teacher ratio problem in terms of gender, and classroom teachers’ educational structure and research capabilities also remain need to improve.2, Teachers with a former basketball special rate still need to improve in Xiangtan municipal high school, and the training of teachers work still strengthened.3, Xiangtan municipal high school basketball optional course situation of the students as follows: First, the students constitute at a major low-level and mid-level basketball technique; the second is the proportion of students in elective boys much higher than girls; Third, motivation of students to choose basketball showing features of the diversity and plurality.4, The situation in Xiangtan municipal high school basketball teaching conducted as follows: First, arrangements exists less than normal number of hours; the second is to teaching targets still should expansion; Third, teaching content selection and application remains to be optimized; Fourth, the teaching methods application is still need innovative; Fifth, teaching evaluation gradually began to shift toward to diversification, a good development trend.5, Optimization content of Xiangtan municipal high school basketball optionl course teaching, can be optimized from the three parts of optimization teaching contents, theories and practice, and pay attention to follow the principles of basketball option class teaching in high school.For the above special condation made the following suggestions: 1, The school should gradually increase the financing investment of basketball option class, to provide the necessary financial support for the development and improvement of the faculty teaching activities. 2, Emphasis on training and education in schools lag basketball elective classes, in order to improve the overall level of the school basketball option class teachers, and promote the upgrading of its comprehensive capabilities. 3, School should pay attention to rationalization and set basketball-option class content, teaching objectives and teaching hours, actively cooperate with the conduct of Basketball Teaching. 4, Pay attention to the basketball option class content optimization, actively explore optimization strategy to promote scientific development in basketball teaching.
