It is well-known that grammar and vocabulary are the two basic elements of language, and vocabulary is the smallest meaningful unit of language.For example, if the English learning is to build buildings, so grammar is the basic framework, and vocabulary is a brick. English famous linguist David Wilkins once said: "There is no grammar, one can only convey a few things; without vocabulary, people can not express anything.” The importance of vocabulary in English learning is evident. To some extent,it is the direct relationship between the number of vocabulary and students’ English listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities.《Senior English New Curriculum Standard 》 puts forward new requirements to senior English vocabulary teaching and high school students’ English vocabulary learning.On the one hand, students must master vocabulary which has increased, on the other hand, requires teachers from the perspective of practical ability to cultivate the students’ basic knowledge and application of vocabulary. However, due to the rural environment, the influence of various factors such as teachers, students, rural senior high school English vocabulary teaching situation has been unsatisfactory. For a long time, the linguists who are struggling to find English teaching methods. In the 21 st century, the necessity of learning English to tell people how to carry out vocabulary teaching to increase students’ vocabulary, so as to get twice the result with half the effort teaching effect is an important proposition. I have access to a lot of literature, I read linguistics, vocabulary, education, educational psychology related works, combined with their own teaching practice, through the analysis of the main problems of rural high school teaching English vocabulary exists, and the corresponding improvement policy recommendations.This paper is divided into five parts altogether. The first part—introduction. It introduces the background and significance of investigation, research trends at home and abroad as well as the subject of research ideas. The second part, explained the related concepts and their significance. The third part, from the perspective of rural reform, rural high school students with English vocabulary teaching describes the theoretical foundation of rural high school English vocabulary teaching. The fourth part, questionnaires and data analysis section, determine the object of study and content, the preparation of the questionnaire from teachers "teaching" and "learning", and the analyzed the results of the survey. The fifth part, the results of the analysis of data obtained by the current problems of rural high school English vocabulary teaching. The last part presents a corresponding improvement strategies. Finally, summarized, and the prospect of the research.
