English teaching in middle school is a basic part of English education in China.And it is also a basic phrase of Chinese English learner. How to remember English words effectively is the first step for a good learner. However, for Chinese students’ problems in memorizing English vocabulary, the former teaching experiments and researches only offering some mnemonic clusters instead of giving a solid, operable method. In recent years, there was a increase in related researches in our country,mostly they had been conducted in the middle and eastern part of China, which with more developed economy. But in the remote counties of western region, no such studies had been done.This research selected 37 students from class 4 grade 8 in Shaya No.2 middle school as subjects. The author applied the new memory method in the two months’ experiment, and after that compared the students of experimental class with the students who taught in the traditional way. To combine the new memory method with the specific teaching content of grade 8, the teaching experiment had been divided into two phrases. In the first phrase, which is the first month, the author gave a expatiation of the correspondence between spelling and pronunciation, and stressed the students on reading and spelling. In the second phrase, the author taught the students the specific procedure in memorizing a new word. The teaching goals of the two phrases were clear and closely linked. The aim was to cultivate the students’ self-study ability step by step. This research used quantitative research method. After a teaching experiment of half term, a vocabulary quiz was again conducted, and the data were analyzed by spss17.0. the results showed that students of experimental class had a better grade in the last quiz. And their abilities of words memorizing had also been improved: 1.The new memory method did help students in spelling; 2.The new memory method did make the students’ memorization more efficiently. 3.Most students had a favor in this new method.According to the results of this research, the author put forward some suggestions for English word teaching of middle school in two aspects. Firstly,teachers should pay more attention to orthography, because although phonetic teaching was important, teaching the correspondence between spelling and pronunciation was more important. Secondly, teacher may guide the students to find their own way to memorize a word, and share the excellent works to help more students to overcome the difficulties in word memorization.
