Embodied cognition theory advocates that cognition is the result of body, environment and their interaction. And it pays close attention to body sensation, body experience and the interaction between body and situation. Embodied cognition theory provides guidance for transformation of the mode of cognition and learning in the field of education and teaching. As one of the core contents of instructional design, teaching activities design is beneficial to achieve the teaching goals and conduct teaching activities effectively and orderly. With the rapid development of embodied cognition theory in various fields, this new cognitive theory can be transferred to the field of education effectively to guide instructional practice and broaden learners’ cognitive way of inherent research in the field of education currently.This study aims to design body-based teaching activities design to explore application of embodied cognition in the field of education. We use the literature review, case study, experimental study, questionnaire survey and interviews to do the study as the following aspects:First, this paper analyzes and summarizes correlational researches of embodied cognition theory and its application in education. After find domestic education field pay little attention to embodied cognition and examination-oriented education constrict human body. So the issues of body and teaching should be highly regarded. For this reason, the article proposed the necessity, urgency and educational significance of embodied teaching activities design. All of these are the foundation of building the framework of embodied teaching activities.Second, we analysis the enlightenment of embodied cognition theory to teaching activities design in order to dig up its instructional value deeply. And then we build the framework of embodied teaching activities based on the principles of educational, embodiment, situational, interactivity and generativity.Third, take Chinese words teaching in primary school for example, we screen words from elementary Chinese textbooks which are suitable for embodied teaching as content of courses. According to the design process of embodied teaching activities, we show a clear and complete teaching activity case from front-end analysis, core elements design, implementation and evaluation.Fourth, we design teaching activities experiment in the horizon of embodied cognition theory to checkout effectiveness and feasibility of embodied teaching activities project and explore teaching effect combine with summative tests, questionnaires and interviews.
