Research On The Identity Of College Students’ National Culture Under The Background Of Western Network Culture

In the twenty-first Century, the mankind has entered an era of multicultural development,the progress of science and technology and the widespread popularity of the network media have made the national culture no longer confined to the previous route of transmission. As the main contents of cultural products, information and services, network pictures, online music, network videos, network literature, network news, online speeches, etc quickly have swept around the world. The US-led Western developed countries which utilize the advantage of their own languages, science and technology and the Internet realize their global strategies by making use of network culture as an important resource and spare no effort to transmit western network culture as well as spread it around the world. As an important conveying object of western countries, the college students in our country actively or "passively" contact with western network culture too much, which lead to a decline in the recognized degree of our own national culture. The present situation is worrying which deserves the widespread attention from all walks of life.By summarizing the general situation and main contents of the study, as well as the causes and coping strategies of the identity crisis of college students’ national culture, I find that some problems exist in the existing studies, such as research ideas are not novel enough, research methods tend to be similar, as well as research contents are not in-depth enough, etc. On the basis of consulting a large number of references, I clarify a series of related concepts, such as network culture, western network culture, cultural identity, and the identity of college students’ national culture.The paper explores the theoretical foundation about the identity of college students’ national culture under the background of western network culture, which is based on national culture theory and cultural identity theory. This paper expounds the specificities of western network culture, namely, the wanton penetration of western ideology, the propaganda campaign of values, the massive dumping of cultural products, as well as the strong monopoly of English and technology. On one hand,this article recognizes that western network culture has a positive effect on theidentity of college students’ national culture, on the other hand, it further reveals that western network culture has a negative effect on the identity of college students’ national culture from four aspects, namely, western network culture weakens college students’ love for traditional culture of the Chinese nation, shakes college students’ confidence in the current socialist mainstream culture, dilutes the identity of their own national culture and prompts them to worship western culture and life-style blindly,thus deepening the understanding of the problem concerning the identity of college students’ national culture under the background of western network culture.The paper carried out an empirical study by using the methods of questionnaire and interview, compiled the questionnaire about the identity of college students’ national culture, and chose the college students who were from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu University of Technology,China West Normal University, Neijiang Normal University and Sichuan University of Arts and Science as subjects. The survey concludes that the identity of college students’ national culture is generally at the secondary level, the identity of national language, national literature and art, the scientific and technological achievements of our nation, national customs and habits as well as national spirit is respectively above the middle level, below the middle level, in the medium level, in the medium level,and at a good level. The paper also elaborates on the features that the college students from capital cities and non-normal colleges as well as male college students are influenced more greatly by western network culture than those who are from local colleges and normal universities as well as female college students. On the basis of the questionnaire survey, I formulated a interview outline about the identity issues of college students’ national culture under the background of western network culture and successively visited nine teachers and twelve students who were from China West Normal University, Chengdu University of Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and South China University of Technology, thus further supporting the conclusion of questionnaire survey through the interview results. Based on the survey data, the paper deeply analyzed the causes of the present situation about the identity of college students’ national culture.From four aspects of the state, families, universities and college students, the paper discusses the strategies that enhancing the identity of college students’ national culture under the background of western network culture, namely, the state strengthens the construction of network culture to lay a solid foundation for enhancing the identity of college students’ national culture, families pay attention to the edification of national culture to provide powerful guarantees for strengthening the identity of college students’ national culture, universities actively guide people’s self-confidence in national culture to create a good atmosphere for enhancing the identity of college students’ national culture, college students strengthen cultural consciousness to exert the subjectivity for enhancing their identity of national culture.
