Teaching is not only the teachers’ teaching practice, but also a practice that teachers guide students learning activities. Both teachers’ teaching and students’ learning should be carried out under the guidance of appropriate theories.Function as the main content of high school mathematics teaching, which is closely related to other mathematics knowledge and its thoughts and methods has penetrated into other disciplines. Function is an important part in high school mathematics teaching. Therefore, combined with the characteristic of function, applied the variation theory to the mathematics teaching in order to correct students’misconception of the function, and then deepen students’ understanding of function knowledge structure, at last to improve the teachers’teaching efficiency.Multiple research methods were used to research the high school mathematics teaching under the guidance of variation theory. First of all, through the arrangement of the related literature to comb the knowledge of variation theory; Secondly, according to the questionnaire answered by math teachers and grade two students in high school to find out students’ shortcomings of function learning then put forward countermeasures and suggestions; Thirdly, according to the author’s teaching experience, derive benefits from variation theory, carefully design and put into teaching practice; Finally, through questionnaires on students’interest in learning and the mastery of function knowledge for data collection, using SPSS19.0 software to analyze the testing results before and after experiment carefully.Main results of the thesis:firstly, it is available to apply variation theory in the function teaching; secondly, guided by the variation theory the function teaching can enhance students’interest in function learning; thirdly, variation teaching can help deepen students’ understanding of function knowledge and improve the mathematics teaching efficiency.
