One aim of the mathematics teaching is to make students successfully distinguish the never experienced variation, which is also a reflection of creative ability in mathmatics. Therefore, mathematics pedagogy should shows students the ability to face the future variation by learning the procedure of experiencing limited variation. By teaching and analyzing the variation of the related mathematics conceptions, rules and exercises from different angles, different levels s and different backgrounds by means of applying varieties of knowledge and methods, pedagogy of variation consciously guides students to find out"invariable"essence of things in"variable"phenomena and to probe the rules in the"invariability". Pedagogy of variation is ultimately to help students master the invariability in varying and to be able to illustrate a certain matter from varied aspects, in different angles and circumstances, so as to summarize the general attribute of the matter. Therefore, variation is one of the methods in which students must be made to exactly grasp the conceptionsAs the kernel content and main thread of mathematics in senior middle school, function not only covers the whole process of mathematics studying during senior middle school stage, but is the basis of advanced mathematics as well as. Function studying has a strategic position. It covers a very large portion of mathematics content in senior middle school. There is a close contact between function and equation, inequality, and sequence, in which function studying influences greatly on that of the others. So it is practical to strengthen teaching and research of function, especially, the teaching and research of"function"in the initial chapter. However, practice shows that students'ability to grasp the function conception is quite poor, it is till one of the tough conceptions in students'mathematics studying. With the gradual perfection of New Mathematics Curriculum Standard and the further development of New Curriculum Reform, it is widely concerned how to use pedagogy of variation to improve the effect of teaching the function conception in class time, and its research has great realistic meaningsIn this thesis, pedagogy of variation is focused on by employing quite a few research methods. On the basis of integrating related materials, teaching design is delicately processed by combining teaching practice and my own teaching experience and with the guide of modern knowledge. In an experiment, the conception teaching of"function"is carried out according to teaching principles of pedagogy of variation and by employing the mathematics conception variation and the teaching patterns of conception class of pedagogy of variation. And after the experiment, questionnaire about studying interest in mathematics is processed. And the results of the questionnaire and of the pre-test and post-test are rather meticulously compiled by applying SPSS14.0, a statistic software system, and then the experiment analysis comes into being.Main achievements obtained in the experiments are:1. In function conception teaching in senior middle school, it is feasible to adapt the approaches of pedagogy of variation.2. Pedagogy of variation of function conception can improve students'study effect.3. Pedagogy of variation can enforce students'study interest.4. Pedagogy of variation is helpful for students to understand mathematics knowledge.5. Pedagogy of variation plays a useful role in improve students'mathematics ability.6. Research done here lays a basis for the further study of theory and practice.
