Then some scientific and reasonable advises will be raised to improve middle students’ level of mental health and school adjustment. The traditional define of gender roles is already difficult to adapt to this complex society. The researches of gender differences date from the end of 19th century. In the late 1960s, the research of gender role made great progress. Physiology, psychology, society, and so on became concerned. A. S. Rossi firstly proposed androgyny concept which is different from traditional coherence mode and made empirical study about it. In 1974, American psychology Sandra Ben formulated the first psychological scale to measure androgynous sexual personality. The androgyny individual broke out the stereotypes about previous social sex, get rid of the traditional bondage and had better social adjustment. What’s more, their bodies and minds were healthy, their moral character were positive. However, some latter researchers form China and abroad put forward that androphany or feminization were better and healthier than androgyny, which also has some opposition. In view of this, this study uses Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI),Student School Adjustment Scaleas research tools, doing a survey of 584 middle school students in our school. Through distributing and collecting questionnaires on-site to collect data. Then using SPSS 17.0 statistical software to analyze data. This study explores the relationship and influencing mechanism between gender role and students’ school adjustment. It is mainly expanded from the following aspects:(1) the distribution of the type of high school students gender roles (2) the comparative analysis of school adjustment of different gender roles (3) whether there is a significant correlation between gender roles of students and students’ adjustment. The results show that:(1) In all students, androgyny individual accounts for 76.2%, feminine individual accounts for 76.2%, undifferentiated individual accounts for 6.5%, male individual accounts for 3.0%.(2)There are significant gender differences and grade differences in school adjustment of middle school students. Generally speaking, school adjustment of girls is better than boys, students of different grades have significant differences in all dimensions of school adjustment. (3) Androgyny individual gets the highest score in every level of school adjustment except theanxiety test. Undifferentiated individual gets the lowest score in every level of school adjustment except the anxiety test. The school adjustment of androgyny students is the best, and that of undifferentiated students is the worst. (4) There is a significant correlation between the gender role of middle school students and school adjustment. The overall study shows that the gender role types of middle school students are the important factors that affect students’ school adjustment level. Therefore, this study suggests carrying out the androgyny education and the double personality cultivation by the effort of families, schools and students. Besides, we should also pay attention to students’ individuation. Thereby, increasing the level of school adaptation of middle school students can be achieved.
