School education has been dominating education since the 1850’s. However, with individual education sense awaken, people start to choose education which school can not provide or provide insufficiently, such as profession training, abilities development courses for children, MOOCs(massive open online courses) and so on. Home school is one of those individual education choices to meet education demands of certain people. My research will use case study methodology to depict and analyze five home-schoolers in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Jinan in China to find out what their education values are. Basing what I find, I will give out some suggestions for educational reformation in China from the perspective of individual education choice theory.The dissertation will be consistent of four parts. The fist part will mainly state the significance of the research, the methodology of the research, and passed related researches. The second part will be divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes one of family in shanghai particularly how they home schooling. The second chapter is about why these five families choose home-school, analyzing relevant factors of this choice in order to get one target of this research. Logically, the third chapter will anecdote how they home-school and explore why they home-school like that. All of dates are from interviews with the family and observation by researcher. The third part of this dissertation will generalize the education values of these home-school families, regarding personal education, whole person education and individual education choice. What’s more, based on analysis on home-school, this research still tries to offer some inspirations for Chinese education reform from the perspective of individual education choice theory.
