Classroom questioning is one of the most widely used skills in classroom teaching skills. So, the effectiveness of Classroom questioning will influence the teaching quality. Classroom questioning is called "teaching life" by a lot of researchers. Thus, the classroom questioning plays an important role in primary English classroom teaching. As the teacher’s classroom questioning plays an important role in the teaching, therefore, it has a great of significances on students’academic achievement and thinking training to study whether the primary school English teachers’ classroom questioning is effective or not, but also specify a direction for teachers to improve the teaching quality.The research objects of this study are 4 English teachers and students from grade 3 to grade 6 in a primary school in Nanning. The research methods in this study are questionnaire, classroom observation and teacher interview. The author investigates various aspects of classroom questioning.According to the results of student questionnaire, the most of the questions in classroom are asked by teachers and answered by students. In the classroom, students love to answer Yes/No questions, and Wh-questions are not often used. Sometimes, the teacher did not give the students enough time to think. Teachers often use simple evaluation to praise students’ answer, but criticize student’s answer occasionally.The results of classroom observation show that teachers often use questions in classroom teaching. The average of teachers’ classroom questions is about 65. Most of the questions in the English classroom in the primary school are simple questions. Although teachers ask every student in the classroom, but questions are always answered by only a small part of the students.The result of the interview showed that teachers had a certain understanding of questioning but not systematically. Although teachers can use the often ask questions in the classroom, but lack skills and strategies.
