Along with the industrial revolution, the ecological environment is seriously destroyed, Therefore, people’s environmental awareness is gradually awaking. With the development of society, environmental awareness has become the essential qualities of modern citizens and the key to promote the sustainable development. Middle school geography has its own advantages, which can make great contributions to the cultivation of environmental awareness. Especially middle schools in the township should implement the environmental education and cultivate the environmental awareness.As the township areas have large rural areas, the economic development speeds up the urbanization. Environmental problems are very complex and prominent. However, the fact is that the environmental education in the township middle schools is neglected, and the implementation is not appropriate, which leads to the high school students’ awareness of the environment can not be effectively improved. At the same time, there is little research about the environmental education in the township middle school, especially the collection and writing of township environment education material.In order to change this situation, try to figure out the current situation of the environmental education by using the method of questionnaire survey, and propose countermeasures based on it. And at the same time, try to implement environmental education material of rural middle schools by the empirical research method. This thesis can be divided into three parts:theoretical research, investigation and empirical research.Theoretical research,(1)The development of environmental protection movement and environmental education are analyzed in three lines:international organizations, developed countries and China.(2) The analysis of the theoretical basis and the cornerstone of environmental education in the geographical teaching of township middle schools are analyzed in three aspects:the national quality, the sustainable development and the middle school geography teaching in environmental education teaching mode.Investigation, (1) Based on the reality of Yongji County, the design and distribution of the questionnaire, to a certain extent, reflect the level of environmental awareness of teachers and students. (2) By analyzing the survey data, the results show that students have simple environmental knowledge and the right environmental attitude, but not enough to promote their positive environmental behavior;Part of the county environmental issues have been improved, but it is the results of supervision of the government. Environmental education still has not been implemented. Meanwhile, the level of awareness of the residents living in students resides is still on the low side. (3) In view of the present situation, the countermeasures are put forward from the aspects of teacher training, management mechanism, teachers’ responsibility and social atmosphere.Empirical research,(1)Combined with the natural environment of the town, social environment and the actual teaching, from the following three aspects:biodiversity, environmental pollution and control, and the the suitability of human settlement, to discuss the appropriate environmental education materials in township middle schools from single disciplinary perspective.(2)After sorting the material, by giving concrete examples, in order to improve its maneuverability and applicability.Conclusion:The problem in Yongji County,in a certain extent, represents the general status of rural middle school, so the countermeasures and the environmental education materials have positive meaning in promoting the township middle school environment education in this field of research and practice.
