| Japanese has a worldwide reputation for manga and its illustrations in the textbook are also distinctive. As an important part of teaching materials, illustration plays an important role. Through the dual coding from pictures and texts, students can understand the text better.Fierce competition has forced them to improve the amount of illustration, however there is room for improvement with quality. The scholars start to pay attention to illustrations in the textbook, but illustration in biology textbook has been neglected. This paper selects two Series science textbooks which are science textbooks made by Wuhan press in China and science textbooks made by Tokyo press in Japan, and set the illustrations of biology course content as object, using the method of literature and mathematical statistics.This paper includes five sections.Part one is a introduction that includes the reason, method, meaning of this study.The second part is about the theoretical basis for the design of illustrations in textbooks and the studies about illustrations of textbook up to present. The third part portrays characteristics in the illustrations of textbook made by Wuhan press in China and science textbooks made by Tokyo press in Japan.The fourth part describes quantity from different angles, Including categories according to the illustration of the content, use, according to the illustrations combination.The fifth part is conclusion and suggestion. From this research, we can find:the amount of illustrations per paper of Japan is higher than China; illustrations of Japan is more lively than China; illustrations of Japan is always Composed of a series of pictures which are more systemic. Considering the functions of illustrations, we can find some illustrations in Japan serve better for the text than illustrations in China. At last, to make the illustrations more perfect, there are some advice.First, when designing illustration, we should made it serve well for the text.Second, Considering the characteristics of the biology, we should mark size in the illustrations.Third, we should design illustrations that made of groups of pictures instead of illustration that made of a single pictures.Fourth, we should describethe illustration briefly and make the appropriate location for illustration and text.Fifth, we shouldseek more resources to design more perfect picture. |
