Doing traditional health-keepingsports has a long historical standing in China.It has been proved by long-term practice that people can invigorate health, prevent diseases and prolong life-spanthrough building up their vigor, energy and spirit themselves. With the rapid social development, traditional sports has shownits unique charm in health care, rehabilitation as well as promotion. However, the traditional health-keeping sports developed among the community residents in Zibo, the typical industrial city in China, is rather depressing. By looking at the current status of the program and the restrictive factorswhich prevent it from moving forward, this article aims at inheriting and facilitating the all-around blossom of the traditional sports. Residents who participate in the traditional health-keeping sports programhas been investigated.Based on the documentary study, questionnaire survey, interview analysis and field investigation, this paper will find out the restriction factors and put forward the corresponding countermeasure fromthe perspectives of behavioristics, psychology and culturology.In regard to the current status of the traditional health-keeping sportsprogramdeveloped among the Community Residents in Zibo, the following characteristics can be found: a.Most practitionersare retired ones, which reduces diversity in age structure. b. Practitioners often have insufficient understanding of the program and low degree of satisfaction towards its organizational management. c.The majority of people play sports out of personal interests, disease prevention, social interaction and self entertainment. d.The majority of people on the self-study way to learn and master the traditional sports keeping in good health. e.In the form of exercise, more than half of people choose no teacher to guide their exercise. f.Shadowboxing Taiji Sword and Mulan Fan are the most common forms of exercise. g.The number of people taking sports is progressively decreasing year by year. h. Participants are subject to aerobic trainingand exercisewith small to moderate amounts. i. People consider the sports program reasonable with a capital costfewer than 200 yuan each year.From more than 500 copies of questionnaires, there are mainly seven aspects hindering the development of the traditional health-keeping sportsprogram: a.The imperfection of the system construction and the short of professional training field. b.The inadequate attention from the government plus the passive response from the residents. c. The poor urban ecological environment and the serious air pollution. d.The lack of professional guidance and thus the unsatisfactory training effect. e. The negative impact caused by other sports practices. f. Few mass activities andinsufficientexchange opportunities. g.Individual physical conditions and diversified sports complexities.On account of the above-mentioned contemporary situations and restrictive factors of the program, this paper comes up with certain countermeasures as follows: a.Tocontinuously improve the institutional system and establish available playgrounds. b.The government shall intensify its publicity and education over people in Zibo.c. To carry out the environment enhancement and air purification activities. d.To fully mobilize the resources from both communities and schools. e.To coordinate the relations betweentraditional and modern sports.
