Pipe music education is an integral part of music education, which has gone through steady development for several hundred years and made great achievements in terms of its research, popularization, creation and practice. In contrast, pipe music education was not well carried out until the beginning of 20 th century, when school music started and embraced the footstep of new music. After the development of more than one hundred years and with continuing efforts of several generations, pipe music has become an indispensable subject among music education in middle schools. It’s critical to improve students’ aesthetic judgment and comprehensive abilities, to cultivate students’ wholesome personality, and to enrich campus culture, etc..With a view to pipe music education in middle schools of Yantai City, the author issues 500 copies of questionnaires to students in Fuan Middle School, Xianghe Middle School, No. 3 Middle School Branch, No. 4 Middle School, No. 13 Middle School and No. 14 Middle School in Zhifu District, making a survey with methods of statistics to analyzing all the results getting from questionnaires. As a result, the author finds that the degree of involvement of students in pipe music education is comparatively low in middle schools of Yantai, the education concepts is to be updated, the teaching resources for pipe music education is in shortage, music activities are in lack, etch. All the above situations has hampered the development of pipe music education.Therefore, the paper put forward a few countermeasures to promote the development of pipe music education. First, Middle school music education should not be guided by the utilitarianism with purpose of graduation rates, which often results in the neglect of students’ comprehensive quality education, instead, schools should guide the student to participate in music activities, leading the student to obtain aesthetic pleasure experience and stimulate their interest in learning music so as to achieve the purpose of improving students’ comprehensive qualities. Second, we should increase the equipment facilities and capital investment for pipe music education, build teaching team of pipe music and activate pipe music education practice, aiming to strengthen the construction of pipe music education resources at middle schools. Third, scientific evaluation system of pipe music education between teachers and students should be formed in terms of evaluation ideas, evaluation content, teacher’s teaching and evaluation method. Fourth, we should use diverse teaching forms, select and compile suitable textbooks for students’ psychological demand and strengthen student’s art practice activities in order to stimulate the students interest in the subject of pipe music study. The final part of this paper, from the perspective of basic music accomplishment, physical quality training and music instruments playing, creatively design training programs and put forward effective countermeasures for improving students’ music instruments performing abilities.
