Macroeconomic policy guidance of New Curriculum Reform promotes the vigorous development of China’s basic education, the new curriculum reform advocates that students should be the center while teachers should play a supporting role in class. It requires students to play an active role in the study. It aims to stimulate the potential of students so that they are motivated to learn something by themselves, in addition, it requires teachers to cooperate with the students in learning actively and give professional guidance. The new curriculum reform requires students to focus on not only the First Classroom, but also the Second Classroom, and it also requires teachers to make them fully combined to improve teaching effectiveness gradually.This paper reviews the domestic and international research literature about the Second Classroom, and analyzes the related theories, such as the Whole Language Approach theory and the Constructivism theory. At present, the Second English Classroom has been carried out gradually in different parts of China, however, because of the difference of the geographical and other conditions, the development of the Second English Classroom is not exactly the same. This paper designs questionnaire and teacher interview based on the existing studies. It aims to investigate and analyze the following five aspects: activity contents of the Second Classroom, students’ learning style, students’ learning interests, students’ evaluation and learning effect so that we can understand the current status of the Second Classroom in Junior Middle School and find out problems existing in the activity contents and the ways of activities carried out in the Second Classroom. Through the survey, the author finds that it has some inadequacies in the process of the Second English Classroom practice carried out in junior middle schools: the content is not rich enough, the form is single; the propaganda work is not enough; teacher’s professional guidance is lacking; students’ initiative has not yet been effectively mobilized.In order to solve these problems in the schools, the author puts forward several feasible proposals on the basis of the related research results: set reasonable proportion of various activities; make the teacher’s role diverse in the Second Classroom teaching; encourage students to study on their own; improve the construction of organization and management mechanisms of the Second English Classroom; deal with the relations between the First Classroom and the Second Classroom. By analyzing the teaching practice of the Second English Classroom in the junior middle school, it aims to put forward sound proposals and practical measures to help these schools find their own shortcomings and correct them positively, making the teaching of the Second English Classroom be more efficient, enrich and supplement related theory of the Second English Classroom.
