Group activity is a kind of teaching model advocated in modern educational concept. After the new curriculum reform, a number of schools in China have developed relevant practice. Group activity is a major teaching model in the process of teaching and other teaching models have been developed by many schools. The level of teaching and learning has been significantly improved with the help of group activity. It is essential to improve the participation of group members in senior high school biology classroom group activities.Firstly, the author studies the relevant references and then knows the concept and current situation of group activity. The author further learns about the students’ views of implementing group activity through questionnaire. The students think that group activity is of great help to self-learning. The following factors should be greatly improved. Such factors include interpersonal relationship among group members, students’ interest in learning biology, problem setting for group activities, and students’ capacity of organizing activities, etc.Secondly, classroom observation and interview along with other methods further illustrate the factors of students’ participation in senior high school biology classroom activities. The author designs classroom observation scale and interview outline in advance, then carries out the observation in class and finally interviews the observed teacher and teammates after class. The study shows that the following aspects have to be improved in order to promote the students’ participation in senior high school biology classroom activities. Such factors include interpersonal relationship among group members, problem setting for group activities, time for group activities, evaluation on group activities, teacher’s guidance for group activities, students’ interest in learning biology and students’ capacity of organizing activities, etc. Finally, the author establishes four basis and principles of generating strategy, which offers theoretical guidance to making strategy and guarantees successful development of advancing strategy and demonstrating the effectiveness. After investigation and practice, the author proposes six strategies to improve students’ participation in senior high school biology classroom group activities: 1) the strategy based on teachers’ effective organization; 2) the strategy based on optimizing problem design for group activities; 3) the strategy based on introducing learning materials; 4) the strategy based on arousing students’ interest in learning; 5) the strategy based on effective evaluation; 6) the strategy based on improving the relationship among group members. In the process of teaching, the author has practiced these six strategies, verified the effects of students’ participation in group activities and proved their effectiveness.Whether the student effectively participates in the group activity or not directly determines the effectiveness of group activity learning. Therefore, improving the senior high school students’ participation in group activity contributes to strengthening the learning effect.
