Education is the top priority project of vital and lasting importance in China. Since 1999, the College Entrance Examination policy has been adjusted and the "enrollment expansion" has been fully implemented in our country. After nearly 15 years’ development, higher education has gradually entered the popular education stage. As an important part of higher education, the enrollment of the fine arts discipline become priority among priorities in the various institutions of higher learning, which will rewrite the history of the higher arts education in China due to its characteristics of "large scale, mass audience and deep impact". The "enrollment expansion" not only reflects the large demand of contemporary artistic talents with the rapid economic development in China, but also embodies the tendency of artistic talent cultivation--from elite education toward universal and popular education. In response to this trend, all types of colleges and universities have begun to establish (or add) related disciplines to fine arts, which is conducive not only to promoting the construction of campus culture, but to enhancing the overall quality and education level of the school. However, such a large and complex group of college art students brings new thinking and challenges for the traditionally rigorous college ideological and political education and management, on how to do their ideological and political education work well, and how to cultivate more talents. In order to probe into the subject of ideological and political education work for college art students, this research investigates three categories of art students in Shaanxi province (respectively the professional fine arts colleges, liberal arts colleges, science and engineering colleges) by holding small seminars and issuing questionnaires. After collecting, analyzing, comparing, and summarizing the relevant valid data, feasible ways and valuable thinking can be provided for the ideological and political education work of art majors. In addition, this research can guide students to establish the correct world outlook, view of life and values, by which students will prove to be artistic talents with "moral, cultured, educated, and professional qualities".
