In recent years, with the deepening of the kindergarten curriculum reform, a lot of advanced children education theories and curriculum concepts from foreign countries have been widely applied in the development of kindergarten curriculum. Among them, the “Developmentally Appropriate Education” proposed by National Association for The Education of Young Children(NAEYC) in 1987 not only gives a completely new education concept, but also provides a framework for the decision-making of curriculum development or the curriculum mode selection.In this thesis, a public kindergarten from Gusu district, "Suzhou Xinkang Primary School Affiliated Kindergarten", is taken as an object to study the dynamic flow of how this kindergarten utilizes its dedicated activity room to build and conduct the kindergarten curriculum based on the “developmentally appropriate” education and curriculum concept. It contains the kindergarten’s theoretical understanding and thoughts of utilizing the dedicated activity room to build and develop developmentally appropriate curriculum, the meanings and methods of building developmentally appropriate curriculum and the kindergarten’s practice and explore of the curriculum development. On one hand the research in this thesis theoretically describes the accordance, value and conditions of building developmentally appropriate curriculum and discusses the effect and meaning of the dedicated activity room in building the developmentally appropriate curriculum. On the other hand, building developmentally appropriate curriculum is explained and evaluated according to curriculum target, curriculum content, curriculum implementation and curriculum evaluation based on the practice.Through the practical development of building developmentally appropriate curriculum with dedicated activity room the kindergarten has accumulated abundant experience, made a lot of innovative trials, formed a thorough curriculum development and management system, showed the kindergarten’s distinguishing feature and improved the kindergarten’s popularity. In the meanwhile, teachers’ professional accomplishment and ability have been greatly raised by building the curriculum. With various developmentally appropriate curriculum children can freely express their autonomy and achieve appropriate improvement in multiple aspects.The attempts of utilizing the dedicated activity room to develop kindergarten curriculum based on "developmentally appropriate" concept is still at the primary stage and the curriculum itself still has many problems. However the value and education view reflected in the kindergarten’s practice and explore, the ambitious innovation and the abundant experience accumulated in the practice are highly precious for other kindergartens to draw lessons from, and also provide a paradigm for the new curriculum reform.
