Study On Student Management Work In Vocational Colleges From The People-oriented Perspective

With the further development of the reform and opening-up and the gradual improvement of market economy in our country, as well as the development of economic globalization and high technology of information network, there is an increasing demand for application-oriented personnel. As china’s higher education is in its popularization stage of development and the vocational colleges are expanding in scale, the comprehensive quality of the students entering the vocational colleges varies greatly and they have much more complicated and different ideas and thoughts than ever before. Faced with the new trend and demands, the old and fossilized mode of student management of vocational colleges is facing severe challenges; its existing problem is becoming more and more severe, since the vocational colleges’ student management work cannot meet the demands of the new situation. Therefore, studying the present situation of student management in vocational colleges and the characteristic of the college students and finding a way to enhance and improve the student management work to achieve the goal of training talents is the major research subject for the one responsible for the student management work of vocational colleges. The continuous promotion of the innovation of idea and strategies for student management, by adherence to the scientific outlook on development and setting up the people-oriented idea of student management, is not only the call of the times, but also the urgent need of achieving the goal of raising qualified graduates of the vocational colleges at present.In this paper, the “people-oriented” idea of the vocational college’s student management work is elaborated, and then the student management work under the guidance of this idea is explained. Based on the real picture of the vocational colleges’ student management, with Guangdong University of Science and Technology as an example, its present development is described and problems are analyzed. And some constructive suggestions and strategies are put forward from the “people-oriented” perspective, applying the public administration theory.The paper can be divided into four chapters: chapter one is the introduction in which the research background, the meaning and purpose of the study, the research method as well as the possible innovation are mentioned. Chapter two is the elaboration on the understanding of the student management work in vocational colleges under the guidance of the “people-oriented” concept. In this section, the “people-oriented” concept is explained and its new connotation is discussed, by referring to a great many of relevant books and papers and the contents, principles and characteristic of student management work of vocational colleges is also taken into consideration. Based on the discussion and explanation, the differences between the vocational colleges and general universities in student management work are analyzed. In chapter three, based on the reality of the student management work of vocational colleges, with Guangdong University of Science and Technology as an example, the problems and wrong concept about student management work of vocational colleges are discussed and its reasons are analyzed. In chapter four, suggestions for improving the working environment of student management work in vocational colleges from the “people-oriented” perspective, and for humanizing the student management rules and service system are given; and the ways of raising the students’ qualities both in value and mental health and constructing the appropriate evaluating system for assessing students’ comprehensive abilities and enhancing the improvement of teachers’ teaching abilities, as well as ways of promoting the student management work under the guidance of the “people-oriented” are discussed. The last part is the conclusion.
