As the basis of learning English of students, vocabulary plays a very important role in the learning and teaching of English class. A rich vocabulary is also a need for the mastery and improvement of various skills in English.The purpose of English vocabulary teaching is to enable students to master a large number of vocabularies and so as to improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. By the investigation of the author, the vocabulary teaching usually becomes the basic and the most important part of English teaching. Different teachers also has different teaching methods and means in English vocabulary. In recent years, with the improvement of the science media technology and the popularization of multimedia, multimodal theory has received more and more attention and acceptance, but at present, the research on multimodality is still in a primary stage. Multimodal theory refers a phenomenon that use auditory, visual, tactile and other senses, and through the language, images, sound and other means and symbols to communicate. The teaching method of combining the multimodal theory and English vocabulary teaching need English teachers to master the skills of multimedia operation and according to the teaching contents, using a variety of graphics, sound, and teaching material. At the same time, it needs teachers to design teaching content reasonable, to stimulate the vocabulary learning interest of students, so as to improve the students’ vocabulary.As a result, the author based on the research results of the new multimodal theory, and focuses on the application of multimodal theory in English Vocabulary Teaching in the senior high school. And through exploration of multimodal theory and combined with the English vocabulary teaching in senior high school study, the author designed a questionnaire independently, carried on the questionnaire survey to 160 students in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, The questionnaires were given to 160 students of an excellent high middle school in Heilongjiang Province in order to provide a practical investigation report for this study. At the same time, the author had a scientific analysis to the data through the SPSS software, and counted the situation in English vocabulary learning of the high school students, meanwhile, the author designed the pre-test and the post-test under the multimodal theory teaching, and contrast the effectiveness of teaching through them. In addition, the author also conducted personal interviews with students and teachers involved in the study, which provided a realistic basis for the study. Finally, the author put forward some specific teaching suggestions based on the survey results and the actual situation of high school teachers and students. The focus of this paper lies in the data investigation and empirical research, and find the real situation from the collection of data and the scientific analysis of it. Such as the current ways of teaching English vocabulary of the most high school English teacher, the ways of students learn English vocabulary, and the situation of students to master English vocabulary. Combined with the multimodal theory, the second language acquisition theory to analyze and solve problems, and put forward concrete measures effectively. At last, found the current problems and difficulties in teaching and learning English of the teachers and students through the pre-test and test the results through the post-test to help teachers to change their teaching concepts, and help students to master English vocabulary more effectively. This study not only provides the academic needs of empirical data for future research, but also provide the application requirement of teaching methods in English vocabulary for the class.
