| As one of the three elements of a language,vocabulary is the core of language learning.So vocabulary teaching is an indispensable part of English teaching.With the development of technology,great changes have taken place in English classrooms in the approaches to teaching English vocabulary.Multimodal symbols such as images,music,and Internet etc.will be involved in the procedures of English vocabulary teaching to wake up students’ various senses and to stimulate students to memorize vocabulary deeply.English teaching is entering into multimodal teaching age.This thesis is designed to find out the effectiveness of multimodal teaching approach on students’ vocabulary learning in senior high school and the changes of students’ attitudes towards this teaching approach.So the subjects of the study are 109 middle school students chosen form one senior high school in Shenyang.In this study,the researcher takes advantage of both quantitative and qualitative research methods and makes use of questionnaires,interviews,and the experiment as the research instruments to exam the effectiveness of multimodal theory on English vocabulary teaching in senior high school.Finally,the researcher takes advantage of statistical software SPSS 17.0 to analyze the data obtained from the results of the questionnaire,pre-test and post-test during the study and draws a conclusion from the data analysis.The results of this study show that there is a significant change on students’ attitudes towards vocabulary teaching.The use of multimodality in teaching not only stimulates students’ motivation in learning vocabulary,but also improves the cooperation between teachers and students.Meanwhile,the statistically improvement between pre-test and post-test shows that the application of multimodal teaching method can strengthen students’ memory of new words and enhance students’ ability of using the words appropriately. |
