Research On The Teaching Methods Ofnative English Teacher

English has become one of the most important subjects in primary school. Currently, a growing number of primary schools start to introduce foreign teachers in order to strengthen their teaching abilities. These foreign teachers from different cultural background have given new release of life to the school. Their teaching methods have brought different experience to local English teachers; it also has had a positive impact on Chinese primary English teaching.Based on the previous study, this thesis has found that teaching methods for these native English teachers are primarily using games, chant, and situational language teaching, total physical response in their class, which are characterized by the emphasis on the real communication and interaction between teachers and students, imparting western background information, humorous teaching language, affirmative evaluation and use of stick figures. Through the questionnaires and interview, we found that these teaching methods have brought positive impacts on both local English teachers and students. For students, they are promoted in their studying interests and motivation, class participation, relationship between them and their teachers, western cultural awareness; for teachers, it is embodied in their communicative ability, teaching content and their teaching ability.In the last part of this thesis, some teaching advice and inspirations are proposed in the hope of promoting local English teaching methods. For our school, they need try best to create a good learning atmosphere and arrange different lively activities to promote children’s studying, For our teachers, they need also pay more attention to cultivate students’ thinking pattern and adjust their own teaching methods accordingly.
