Imitation, as a traditional learning way, is reviewed by language researchers with the introduction of memetics in China. Writing is an important language output skill, it should have been paid more attention to. However, it is the fact that students still have some difficulties in writing. This thesis tries to verify the application of imitation into writing from the perspective of memetics.The two research questions of this thesis aim to investigate the changes of students’ attitudes toward writing and the effects of imitation writing on improving students’ writing ability after imitation practice. In order to answer the two questions, an experiment has been conducted in two parallel classes in Henan Province Jiyuan X X Senior High School. And the experiment lasted for 10 weeks.After collecting all the data of experiment, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis are used to analyze the results of the instruments which include test, questionnaire and interview. The results of questionnaires and tests will be explained by quantitative analysis and the results of interview will be analyzed by qualitative analysis.From the results of experiment, the main findings of this thesis can be concluded that students’ writing ability in experimental class has been improved after imitation practice, and their attitudes toward writing have shifted from the negative to the positive after the experiment. Finally, this thesis also provides some suggestions for further study.This thesis consists of five chapters. The chapter one briefly introduces the background, purpose, significance and framework of this thesis. The second chapter is literature review, reviewing the related theory of imitation writing abroad and at home. The third chapter mainly presents the research questions, the relevant details of experiment and the results of data. The fourth chapter is discussion on results of research questions. The fifth chapter makes a summary of this thesis, it includes the major findings, teaching pedagogical implication, suggestions for future research and the limitations of this study.
