PurposeThe decline of children’s physical activity and physique are the primary concern of WHO. Analyzing current situation of children’s physical activity is important to the developmet in the future. At present, related research of China show that the lack of physical activity could create continually decline in physique, research from abroad indicate that different physical activity could influence the somatotype of individual. In order to discuss the relation of physical activity and somatotype, this paper attempt to analyze the current situation of children’s physical activity who is from Shanghai with pedometer. Thus, this paper could provide scientific basis for the formulate of children’s physical activity program.MethodAccording to the principle of random cluster sampling, this paper selected 1090 students whose age is between 7-14 years old (542 boys,548 girls) in Xinguang middle school and Minhang center primary school. With the application of pedometer and Heath-Carter Somatotype method, the current situation of children and adolescents was analyzed in this paper, the relathion of physical activity and somatotype also discussed.Results(1)About the somatotype characteristic, the average somatotype size of boys is 4.8-4.3-2.3 and the average somatotype size of girls is 4.9-3.5-2.8. The endomorphy and ectromophy of boys are significantly higher than girls(P<0.001); The fat content of children and adolescents on the high side, their musculoskeletal relatively developed, the body linear degree relatively lower.(2)About the current situation of physical activity, the average steps per week of boys is 7228.5, the average steps per week of girls is 6560, the average steps per week of boys significantly higher than girls(P<0.05), the average steps of girls is relatively higher in work day(P<0.05); Regardless of gender, the time of children and adolescents spend on watching TV,video, computer (including ipad),homework,extracurricular reading(including book, paper and magazine), reading and drawing are relatively lower in work day(P<0.01).(3)About the relation of physical activity and somatotype, for the pre-puberty boys, the endomorphy(P<0.01) and mesmorphy(P<0.05) are relatively lower in the boys whose average steps is more than 15000 per week, the ectromophy(p<0.01) is relatively higher in the boys whose average stpes is more than 15000 per week; the mesmorphy (P<0.001)of boys who spend more than 2 hours on playing computer is relatively higher, the ectromophy(P<0.01) is significantly lower.Conclusion(l)For children and adolescents, the endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy of boys are 4.8,4.3 and 2.3, the endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy of girls are 4.9、3.5 and 2.8.(2)The physical activity of boys are relatively higher in boys per week, the physical activity of girls are relatively higher in work day; Regardless of gender, the sendentary time is higher in weekend.(3)For pre-puberty boys, the endomorphy is relatively lower in the boys whose average steps is more than 15000 steps per week, the ectromophy is relatively higher; For the boys who spend more than 2 hours on playing computer, their mesmorphy is relatively higher, ectromophy is relatively lower.
