Along with the rapid expansion of social economy, modern science and technology, per capita personal income level and living standards are increasing gradually. With the sustainable implementation of National Fitness Program and the successful holding of Beijing Olympic Games, recreational sports which have popularity, universality, diversity, plurality, immediacy, randomicity, and functions of recreation and fitness, become one of the most important options.According to statistics, trend of Engel coefficient has decline and trend of recreational consumption has increased since the 1990s. Based on Engel’s law, when Engel coefficient is under 65%, recreational consumption behavior appear, and when Engel coefficient is under 50%, recreational consumption increases steadily. On the basis of plentiful overseas researches, the fastest growing phase of national economy is the period that GDP per capita grows from $800 to $2000. And it is also the fastest growing phase of recreational consumption. In 2012, Engel coefficient of urban families has decreased to 36.2%, and GDP per capita has increased to $7180. China has entered into an epoch of recreational consumption.Secondly, the improvement of labor productivity and the guarantee of eight-hour day in Labor Law offer residents sufficient time to participate recreational sports. Due to the increase of leisure time and improvement of living standards, residents increase the recreational consumption and participate in recreational sports initiatively in order to get a healthy and strong body, reduce stress and achieve many other goals. Beijing residents have strong sense of health awareness and strong cognition to recreational sports, but lack of initiative and positivity of participation. There are conflicts between acceptance and practical action of recreational sports. The main reason is weak perception of sports participation. It is necessary to lead and improve perception.2. The organizational form of recreational sport activities that Beijing residents can participate in is individual spontaneous organizational form. Other social organizational forms weren’t used effectively to mobilize initiative of recreational sports participation. It is necessary to organize relevant recreational sport activities according to different residents group.3. Beijing residents mainly participate in recreational sports in public sport facilities, public areas, city parks, community sport centers, school sport facilities and general public stadium. Residents choosing participation location is mainly based on whether it is easy to reach the venue or not and whether the venue has good sport facilities. This result has significant meaning for Beijing recreational sport facility planning and programming.4. The main motivations of recreational sport consumption are personal preference (63.3%), to improve physical fitness (59.6%), and to feel good (46.5%). When motivation level ascend, self-complacent motivation stronger than motivation of improving physical fitness.5. Recreational sport consumption structure of Beijing residents is not balanced:material consumption occupies the largest proportion, followed by consumption of participation, and the last is information consumption. In consumption of participation, consumption of sports tourism occupies the largest proportion, and it is the second largest proportion in recreational sport consumption. Sports tourism has huge potential development area.6. Recreational sport overall consumption level of Beijing residents is in the upper level.
